Morphology

Satellite capsid is isometric and exhibits icosahedral symmetry with a diameter of 26-28 nm. Capsids appear round.

Capsids can be penetrated by stain and some appear dark in the center; virus is associated with a helper virus.

Nucleic Acid

The genome is monopartite, only one particle size is recovered of linear, negative-sense and positive-sense, single-stranded, or double-stranded DNA. The complete genome is 4700 nucleotides long, is sequenced and complete sequence is about 4700 nucleotides long. The genome has terminally redundant sequences. The terminally redundant sequences have of 145 nucleotides has inverted terminal repetitions with a palindromic sequence (or the first 125).

Genome Organization and Replication

By itself, genomic nucleic acid is infectious (under permissive conditions. Under non-permissive conditions the dependovirus genome integrates in the host genome to establish a latent infection).

Translation: Virions are associated with helper virus and dependent on co-infection of helper virus during replication, or are associated with helper virus, but independent from its functions during replication (under permissive conditions in cultured cells. Helper viruses are adenovirus or herpesvirus which render the intracellular environment permissive for replication).
